Dell attempts to trademark "cloud computing" , No way Jose
A company that builds cheap clones with a 4 letter "brand name" and never invents anything but to collect money and support cheap manufacturers.
Rant aside, Dell attempts to tradermark a term "cloud computing" . I would expect IBM or SUN to trademark it but not something as bad as Dell.

SOAP a failure , heard that a thousand times
Sun technologist calls SOAP a failure and quite a lot of other experts in the field.
It's
too broad and look, a perfect solution for business layer interaction
became a mess. Thats what you get when its too broad in its
interpretation. Sounds like we're talking about a Bible or some other
religious testament. When its open to interpretation it will eventually
split into its own "great ways". Products evolve on top of the SOAP and
so on.
Now that Cisco is developing its own light weight SOAP to
handle way more messaging. Perhaps they will lead the way. Or perhaps
we (developers) will keep in going finding other solutions.

Anyone noticed spam at Gmail?
When Gmail was release , i don't remember receiving a single spam mail for over a year.
Now it seems that some of that spam and obvious ones are passing through. Thankfully just one or two a day.
However it seems a bit odd that all of a sudden they started to pass through that massive filtering that they have.
I
have a hunch that by offering commercial gmail, the servers that
process commercial accounts are perhaps a bit smarter or tuned better,
whatever it is , the spam letters started to come in almost the next
day Google released their commerical package.

Google to start a 3D world, about time
A new project/site called Lively has started off to enter the world of virtual reality.
A mature and known such service is a Second Life , which only allows you to login and work from their site.
Google's
Lively will let you embed your little world onto your page or facebook
, which should be a turning point for its exposure.
Though
personally Second Life's API was hard to find and contains little
information, Google Should expose their Lively API in the nearest
future.
It seems that the similar technology as Google Earth for web is used in this project as well.
For all of you that do not know, Google Earth widget can now be embedded into a web page and work with their API.

EJB 3.1 , even more ability for JSF
I suggest anyone to read on the EJB 3.1 by TheServerSide site .
This
part 4 is all about JSF and EJB , its getting extremely easy , with a
few lines of Annotations and you have an en injected resource.
The enterprise development is getting easier. Of course we expect a good App Server, such as Glassfish.

MacOS X Leopard installs smoothly on IBM laptop
I've been an eager fan of Leopard and even more the "special version" for PCs.
Let's
put aside those pesky Ads , PC vs Mac, they are irrelevant, we " those
that know what hardware is" know that Mac is just a nicely packaged
hardware, which is still a PC (stands for Personal Computer, nothing
else). But having Mac OS X is another story, the Operating system is
blazing fast.
Well i'm here to tell you, i was able to install it on my IBM T61 laptop .
I suggest seeking a Kalyway version, it was a 10.5.2

Another great alternative to Ms Office Suite, from IBM
You can live without Ms Office , i guarantee you. From personal experience , i have lived without Ms Office for over 4 years without anyone knowing that their doc files were altered by a Non Microsoft product.
I use Star Office (from Sun Microsystems) which is only $60 but totally worth it. Contains all the tools and more in comparison with Full Ms Office Suite. Excel files are read and edited without a problem, Word files can be exported as PDF in button click and other neat and useful features.
Star Office is based on stable version of Open Office with addition of other features.
Open Office actually is a Sun's project with Community involvement.
Now there is a new product on the virtual shelve. IBM Lotus Symphone.
Totally free product and is yet to show off its potential with such backing as IBM's. They can't sell it since its based on Open Office but they do have optional support for it.
I implore you to try it out and let me know what you think of it.

Want to win a blazing 100,000 Dollars? Forbes is giving it away.
Forbes has a contest "Boost your Business" , a second time around this year.
It's quite simple, you come up with an idea with your team (small). In 500 words, you outline your business plan and you're done.
Sounds great, considering HP is sponsoring it among other big/medium companies.
What made me curious was going through the legal agreement you have to accept, which most of us neglect.
"The Contest Sponsors, including, but not limited to Forbes.com LLC, and
Hewlett-Packard Company (“Sponsors”) may publicize any initially
submitted entries in full or in part. By entering, participants (1)
acknowledge that Sponsors, Judges, and/or Forbes.com readers may
develop or promote ideas, concepts or products which are similar to any
ideas, concepts or products you may submit as part of your contest
entry; and (2) to the fullest extent permitted by law, agree to release
and indemnify Sponsors, Judges, and/or Forbes.com readers from and
against any and all liability arising out of any similar ideas concepts
or products developed or promoted by Sponsors, Judges, and/or
Forbes.com readers. Sponsors, Judges, and Forbes.com readers will be granted access to some or all of the business descriptions and information submitted
as entries in this Contest. Access to the business ideas will be
granted to the members of the judging panels, visitors to Forbes.com,
and Promosis to screen and conduct judging of entries."
Essentially you will give away your idea, and a right to protect it. Now, i would understand if a portion or a summary of an idea would be publicized for some voting.
Consider this, you're submitting a great idea for your service, and some sponsor (even lowest), can catch this during "judging" and orders it to be developed, obviously they might develop it quicker considering an idea might never get the first place.
If you attempt to develop this and publish it after their promotion date, you will disadvantage and labeled as copy cat, perhaps other legal trouble that may arise.
I hope this post is viewed as much as possible to be aware of all this so called contests.

Google releases Google Health for medical records
Google Health, a new service from Google released today (Monday). Not a unique service on the market yet will be most trusted since it comes from the big brother of all search engines , Google.
Microsoft also has a similar service, perhaps not as popular as this one will be , considering the exposure Google has.
Personally speaking this is getting to a point where little startups will have little chance to compete in building such services considering Google has a trusting brand name.
I would really like to see a Google Health API , allowing to build on top of Google Health various applications for various diseases or conditions.
What's next. Google IRS , Google Bank , why not.

Where can you train your shots in tennis?
If you live in a cold country such as Canada , you obviously don't have a lengthy summer to play tennis. A good way to work your handling of a tennis raquet is to play against the wall.
Often you will find a flat wall somewhere outside. A great way to improve your handling is to stay close to to the wall, approximately a meter (few feet) and try to keep the ball in constant rotation with your raquet ....
